Old name of Hwacheon was Yasime and the northern tribes were lived in the place from the Old Stone Age.
Hwacheon was called Saengcheon-gun in Gogyryeo Dynasty and Nangcheon-gun under the reign of King Gyeongdeok in Silla Dynasty, through the early Joseon Dynasty. Later, it became an independent county named Nangcheon-hyeon as the foundation of Hwacheon-gun today. Hwacheon-gun has 23,777 population and 909.03㎢ in its area that is divided into Hwacheon-eup, Sangseo-myeon, Hanam-myeon, Sinae-myeon, and Gandong-myeon.
Many tourists are visiting Hwacheon since a variety of programs for four-season farm village experience are being operated in every village, including canoe festival and tomato festival in summer and Sancheoneo festival in winter. |
